The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450

A New Chapter in Adventure Motorcycling

Royal Enfield, a name synonymous with rugged, reliable, and quintessentially British motorcycles, has once again captivated the hearts of motorcycle enthusiasts with its latest launch of the Guerrilla 450 in Barcelona (now also available in India). This mid-weight adventure bike, launched in 2024, aims to strike the perfect balance between on-road comfort and off-road capability, embodying the spirit of exploration and adventure that has been the hallmark of the Royal Enfield brand.

Sharing the Sherpa 450cc engine with the Himalayan, it sports a modern-retro design, alloy wheels, and advanced tech like LED lights and Google Maps navigation. With a 452cc engine delivering 40.02 PS, it aims to excel in performance and appeal to motorcycle enthusiasts.

Design and Aesthetics

The Guerrilla 450 features a design that seamlessly blends modernity with the classic Royal Enfield charm. Its muscular and robust frame is accentuated by a high-mounted fuel tank, which not only enhances its rugged look but also provides a substantial fuel capacity for long-distance journeys. The bike’s aggressive stance is further emphasized by its wide handlebars, high ground clearance, and spoked wheels, which are wrapped in dual-purpose tires. Its athletic build with perfect angles, purposeful edges, and muscles in all the right places makes it a machine that looks as good as it rides.

The aesthetic appeal of the Guerrilla 450 is amplified by its minimalist bodywork and utilitarian design elements, such as the skid plate, handguards, and pannier racks. It features a steel, tubular frame, 43 mm telescopic front forks with 140 mm travel, and a rear mono-shock setup with 150 mm travel. The motorcycle is available in a total of five colors split between the three variant lines.

The Variants

There are five colors on offer across three variants of the Guerrilla 450.

The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 ANALOGUE VARIANT

The base Analogue variant comes in two simple but charming colorways- Smoke Silver and Playa Black. At 2.39 lakh, the Analogue variant is the most inexpensive way to purchase a Guerrilla 450. This variant gets only a digi-analogue dash. This is the same unit seen on other Royal Enfields like the Hunter 350 and Super Meteor 650. While this dash is not Bluetooth-compatible, the Tripper navigation pod next to it can be paired to your phone for navigation alerts.

GUERRILLA 450 DASH VARIANT

The mid-spec Dash variant also comes in two colors- Playa Black and Gold Dip, costing Rs10,000 more than the base variant at Rs 2.49 lakh. This variant is equipped with the TFT screen seen on the Himalayan. This display, once paired to your phone, can show you Google Maps directions, among other things.

GUERRILLA 450 FLASH VARIANT

The top-spec Flash variant gets the same equipment and features as the Dash variant but its pricing at Rs 2.54 lakh can be attributed to its somewhat flashy colors i.e. Yellow Ribbon and Brava Blue.

Technology and Features

Royal Enfield has equipped the Guerrilla 450 with a host of modern features to enhance the riding experience. The bike comes with a digital instrument cluster that displays a wealth of information, including speed, gear position, fuel level, and trip details. Additionally, the bike is equipped with a USB type-C port and smartphone connectivity, allowing riders to access turn-by-turn navigation, call notifications, and music controls on the go.

The Guerrilla 450 also features multiple riding modes, including Road, Off-road, and Rain, allowing riders to customize the bike’s performance according to the riding conditions. This versatility makes the Guerrilla 450 a true all-rounder, capable of handling a variety of environments with ease.

The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450: Powertrain

Engine and Performance

At the heart of the Guerrilla 540 lies a 450cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. This powerplant is designed to deliver a perfect blend of power and efficiency, making it well-suited for both highway cruising and off-road escapades. The engine produces a commendable output of around 40 horsepower and 35 Nm of torque, providing ample grunt for tackling steep inclines and rough trails.

The bike is equipped with a six-speed gearbox, ensuring smooth and precise gear shifts, while the slip-assist clutch reduces effort and fatigue during long rides. The Guerrilla 450’s performance is further enhanced by its lightweight frame, which ensures agility and ease of handling, whether you’re navigating through city traffic or exploring remote mountain trails.

Suspension and Braking

One of the standout features of the Guerrilla 450 is its advanced suspension setup. The front end boasts long-travel telescopic forks, while the rear is equipped with a Mono shock, both of which are fully adjustable to cater to varying riding conditions. This setup provides excellent shock absorption, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride even on the most challenging terrains.

The braking system on the Guerrilla 450 is equally impressive, featuring a 310 mm ventilated disc with a double piston caliper at the front and a 270 mm ventilated disc with a single piston caliper at the rear. This setup ensures optimal stopping power and control, enhancing safety during both on-road and off-road adventures.

To sum it up:

The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 represents a significant step forward for the brand, combining its rich heritage with modern technology and design. It is a declaration of independence from mind-numbing conformity. With its powerful engine, advanced suspension, and host of features, the Guerrilla 450 is poised to become a favorite among adventure motorcycling enthusiasts. In an age where automation has dulled sensation, algorithms have stifled imaginations, and features have replaced souls- the guerrilla stands defiantly apart. Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or a weekend explorer, the Guerrilla 450 promises to deliver an unforgettable riding experience, making every journey an adventure to remember.
